We’re talking about the Exemplar Templar this episode: Gawain. You probably know his story about The Green Knight, but do you know his other fascinating tales like his cursed wife, his best horse, and his epic feud with Lancelot??

Sometimes you have to take a quick sidebar to talk about a bunch of women with the same name, but very different roles in Arthurian legend! From a pure Elaine that dies of heartbreak, to another who is scheming to give birth to the Perfect Knight, you’d be surprised how many Elaines can fit in these Arthurian stories!

We can’t talk about Arthurian Legend without talking about the Most Knight of All Time: Lancelot. We love this complex character, at times a Gary Stu, at times complicated and yearning. But you’ll hopefully come away with a new appreciation of the most well-known knight.

Pull up a chair at the Round Table as we discuss the centerpiece of King Arthur’s court! How many knights sat there (more than you’d think!), what did it look like, and what did it represent to these knights that swore fealty and chivalry?

We love mess, and Queen Guinevere of Arthurian legend? There’s a lot of mess there! There’s scandal, there’s infidelity, AND AN EVIL TWIN!! We discuss a woman that a lot of Arthurian scholars and writers simply don’t know what to do with.

The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that Spirits Podcast has to of course do a Lady of the Lake episode as part of our Arthurian series!
